Scion AV stayed busy in 2014 putting out lots of great and free music from of our favorite acts. Some of them were from newcomers getting the attention they deserve, while other songs were from awesome artists who keep making great work. Check out five of the best tracks that Scion AV released in 2014
Tree, “Like Whoa”
Featured on the Scion AV Presents: @MCTree EP, “Like Whoa” is a gravelly and soulful showcase of the Chicago MCs talents. Written and producer by Tree, it’s a strong piece of self-motivation. In the video, Tree hit the frozen streets of his hometown all by himself, always an individual.
Pro Era, “Extortion”
“Extortion” by Pro Era is the lead song from the Scion AV Presents: The Shift EP. Featuring verses from Kirk Knight, who also produced the track, and Dyemond Lewis, it shows why the pair are two of the most closely watched members of the group. The video for “Extortion” finds Pro Era stalking rooftops, alleys and empty concrete playgrounds, illuminated only by road flares and mysterious static transmissions.
Scotty ATL, “What’s the Formula”
Scotty ATL’s “What’s the Formula” comes from the Scion AV Presents: OTR2SJ EP. Produced by Childish Major, “What’s the Formula,” is a haunting cut that find Scotty ATL breaking down why you need to pay attention to him. The Atlanta rapper also stopped by the Scion AV All Purpose this year where he talked to Prince Paul about maintaining his hustle and his relationship with Killer Mike.
Olivia Jean, “Reminisce”
Olivia Jean previewed her debut album Bathtub Love Killings on Third Man Records with the single Scion AV Presents: Olivia Jean — Reminisce. A gritty blast of rock & roll, “Reminisce” features Jean handling vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards and drums. Whew! Check her playing them all in the video for the song.
Red Fang, “The Meadows”
“The Meadows” by Red Fang is the A-side from the band’s two-song single that we gave away for free online and as a 7-inch during the band’s Scion-sponsored Situation: AWESOME! tour. Though the song is as heavy as you’d expect from the Portland, Oregon band, the glutinous video continued their streak of hilarious clips.
